reclaimed workbench

These large pine timbers were rotted from life as a shed frame and were destined for my landlord's fire pit.  After staring at them for too long, I realized that they were filled with tool marks and joinery made with lots of love. I couldn't stand to see them burned.

I rescued them from the fire pit and reclaimed as much wood as I could and tranformed it into a much needed workbench for my studio.

One evening while finishing the bench top, my landlord wandered over and inquired about his disappearing 'firewood'.  I pleaded guilty and explained that I couldn't stand to watch all the fine tooling and craftsmanship turn to ashes.

"Some craftsman put a lot of love into those timbers! They were full of character," I said.

"I know," said my landlord. "My dad built that frame years ago.  He was a cabinet and furniture maker."

Once he saw the workbench I was forgiven.
